So the creative side works better for me. Years ago when I couldn't find time to write when the kids were small, I used to plot stories out in my head on the school run. I couldn't have done that when I went out to work and all my creative energy was sucked into thinking up ideas for other people! Am amazed that people don't think HE jobs are proper jobs either. What you do is really important!Jane Henryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17514534117777707886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19302868.post-22685685420197452112010-01-31T17:43:29.506+00:002010-01-31T17:43:29.506+00:00Jane: you don't have a proper job?! Sure, its formalised and monthly paid but I work within a University and plenty of people don't consider anything to do with Higher Education a proper job, especially if its on the teaching side ...

You're right that only child status doesn't do much to prepare you for the chaos of family life which I suspect is actually quite 'normal'... so help us all...!Lisa Rullsenberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02020425273742237299noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19302868.post-16677658115755994652010-01-26T10:02:23.254+00:002010-01-26T10:02:23.254+00:00Hi Jane,

I never doubted you for a minute!

Like you, I've been through a rough couple of years (due to health problems), and had to give up a job I loved working in a pharmacy because of it. I've proof read for people (including my husband!) for a good few years now, and was asked to edit a series of 7 books for a friend of the family. Book 1 won a top Literary prize in Scotland, so we were over the moon and it gave me a much-needed boost too! I'm currently working freelance and have just completed a technical book for a company in Milan. At least something good has come out of the bad stuff - but I'd love to actually write and get something of my own published one day! You never know - and you are a tremendous inspiration to me, so keep up the good work!

Best Wishes,
Bindi xxBindinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19302868.post-20652147873242341262010-01-25T13:20:20.498+00:002010-01-25T13:20:20.498+00:00Lisa, don't forget I don't have a proper j...Lisa, don't forget I don't have a proper job (-: Could never write when I worked full time, far too exhausting! And coming from a big family kind of prepares you for chaos. Spouse finds it much trickier having been brought up as nearly an only. And I DO love the elderly. So for all my moaning about the probs, I take great comfort from the privilege of spending time with mil and hearing her stories. Which I AM going to write down...

Thanks Jooley & Bindi, and hope you both enjoy it.

Bindi, this has been a tricky time, and it was bloody hard work, but otoh, have proved to myself I can still produce a book with crises going in my life - last time I was in that position I wasn't pubbed, so very different. Who do you work for?Jane Henryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17514534117777707886noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19302868.post-7530593588057366062010-01-25T12:53:37.390+00:002010-01-25T12:53:37.390+00:00Sorry to hear that you have had such a stressful t...Sorry to hear that you have had such a stressful time - but I just KNOW that it will be well worth it! Like Jooley, your new book is already in my 'basket' on Amazon, and I can't wait as I loved 'Last Christmas' not to mention your other books too of course! Being a proof reader/editor myself, I know only too well how much work goes into a book, so you have well and truly earned a really good rest (and some much-needed me time too no doubt!). Take it easy (or as easy as possible!) and good luck with your next book too. I am in awe and admiration of you managing to get these things done at all, let alone as quickly as you manage.

That you can reflect on it all so coherantly is amazing.

and can I say: WELL DONE - and can't wait to read the next publication!

* family - am an only child, of an only child, with a refugee father who grew up with only one grandparent around (not living with us). I have scarcely any concept of family with multiple siblings, aunts , unlces, grandparents etc being anything other than 'complex'.Lisa Rullsenberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02020425273742237299noreply@blogger.com
